We have put together some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to provide you with some information before signing up to our classes.
How many people are in the class?
Hyperdance classes have up to 20 students, however classes are never overloaded as we pride ourselves on giving individual attention to students if needed. Our studio at Level 2, 167 Gouger St (upstairs next to Kpub restaurant) can comfortably handle our class sizes.
What clothing do I wear?
Anything comfortable that you can stretch and move around in, such as a tracksuit or active wear. It is advisable to wear your hair back and avoid dangly earrings or jewellery that may get caught whilst dancing.
What shoes do I wear?
For Jazz class we recommend jazz shoes or jazz sneakers. We can advise you about where to purchase these and what type to buy.
For Hip Hop classes we recommend dark or black soled sneakers without too much grip. Our studio floor is a professional dance floor and white/light soled shoes are not permitted, unless they are professional dance shoes (i.e. Bloch, Capezio brand etc.).
For Contemporary classes, black socks, bare feet, or ballet shoes are recommended.
For Heels classes, we recommend heels which are low-medium height with a fairly wide heel for beginners. A shoe with a strap or an ankle boot is a good idea to start with, but nothing too chunky. If you are an inter and advanced level dancer who have done heels before, you may wear dance stilettos if you feel confident and safe wearing them. We can recommend where to purchase stiletto dance heels if you wish to buy some.
For Tap classes, tap shoes are not necessary straight away. Low heeled shoes with a strap are recommended to begin with. We have some spare pairs of tap shoes at the studio and we can recommend which type of tap shoe to buy and where to get them from.
How old are the students?
Our classes are all adult classes for age 18 and over. Most of our students are between 20-45, however we don’t have an age limit.
